Temperatures increase skin diseases

Memorial Kayseri Hospital Dermatology Specialist Çağdaş Koç warned that diaper rash and fungal infections are common in people who are overexposed to the sun in hot weather.

Memorial Kayseri Hospital Dermatology Specialist Çağdaş Koç said that the side effects of the sun have started to be seen very frequently with the hot weather and said, “We see the side effects of the sun very often during this process. We need to protect ourselves from the sun as much as possible. We recommend a wide brimmed hat, sunglasses and sunscreens with a factor of at least 30. These creams should be applied half an hour before going outside. We need to renew every 3 hours. It is very important for children. Intense sun exposure, especially in the first 2 years of life, poses a risk for skin cancer in adulthood. Children should especially be kept in the shade and should not be taken outside as much as possible between 11 pm and 3 am.”

Suggesting white or light-colored cotton clothes that cover the skin, Koç said, “In this period, there has been an increase in our patients coming with diaper rash complaints due to the temperatures. We see complaints especially in the neck, armpits, under the breasts and groin due to heat and sweating. We recommend our patients to take frequent showers with warm water to prevent these. Sometimes fungal infections are added to these diaper rashes. Then there are widespread ring rashes on the skin and it is characterized by severe itching. In such a case, we plan a fungal treatment for our patients.”
