Turkish Psychological Counseling and Guidance Association Samsun Provincial Representative Assoc. Prof. Dr. Meryem Vural Batık said that increasing social stress factors, economic uncertainties, natural disasters and the effects of the pandemic have significantly increased the need for psychological counseling services.
In Samsun, a press release was held on September 30, National Psychological Counselors Day. Turkish Psychological Counseling and Guidance Association Samsun Provincial Representative Assoc. Prof. Dr. Meryem Vural Batık was also present at the statement.
Stating that the profession of psychological counseling emerged in the early 20th century with the acceptance of psychology as a science, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Meryem Vural Batık said that it was first developed to treat mental traumas experienced by soldiers in the post-war period. Pointing out that the profession has expanded over time as a field to protect the emotional and mental health of individuals, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Meryem Vural Batık stated that the role of psychological counseling has become increasingly important in many areas such as educational institutions, health services, social services and human resources.

Stating that psychological counselors today are professionals who help individuals cope with mental difficulties such as stress, anxiety and depression, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Meryem Vural Batık said, “Increasing social stress factors, economic uncertainties, natural disasters and the effects of the pandemic have significantly increased the need for psychological counseling services. Young people, families and individuals in different age groups are seeking professional support to cope with the difficulties they face. In this process, psychological counselors contribute to alleviating the emotional burden of individuals and helping them lead a healthy life. The importance of the counseling profession will increase in the future. Technological advances, online counseling services and the spread of innovative therapeutic methods will allow individuals to receive more accessible and effective support. In addition, societal changes and increased cultural diversity will require counselors to develop skills to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds. The increase in preventive services and community mental health projects will play an important role in the future of the profession.”
Stating that psychological counselors contribute to social welfare by improving the quality of life of individuals, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Meryem Vural Batık congratulated the 5th National Psychological Counselors Day, which was held on September 30 this year.
