The Traditional Complementary Medicine Unit (GETAT), which serves in the Historical Nursing Building within Konya Numune Hospital, continues to heal patients with treatment methods applied for thousands of years.
Thousands of years of treatment methods continue to be applied in the Traditional Complementary Medicine Unit, which started to serve in the Historical Nursing Building, whose restoration was completed by Konya's central Selçuklu District Municipality. In the GETAT unit, which helps the healing process of many diseases, treatment methods for many diseases are also applied. While applications such as cupping, acupuncture, acupuncture, leeching, phytotherapy and mesotherapy are performed in this unit, patients who came to the unit expressed their satisfaction with the treatment methods.
“It is not an alternative medicine other than normal medicine”
Konya Numune Hospital Chief Physician Assoc. Prof. Dr. Halil Ekrem Akkurt stated that the GETAT unit is a unit they attach importance to and said, “In the GETAT unit, we perform cupping, acupuncture, leech, phytotherapy and mesotherapy applications. The treatments applied in the GETAT unit are treatment methods containing clinical knowledge that have been practiced by people for thousands of years. These treatment methods are not an alternative medicine outside of our normal medicine as mentioned outside. It is a complementary treatment method that contributes to and supports surgery, medication and methods applied in medicine. I wish all our doctors knew all GETAT applications, performed surgeries when necessary, gave medicines when necessary, and used these applications as supportive. If this situation is as we want, hospitalization times will decrease, the number of applications may decrease, and the amount of medication used may decrease.”
“They should pay attention to the applications made by the doctor”
Underlining that these applications should not be done under the stairs, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Halil Ekrem Akkurt said, “Our doctors working in this unit can work here as a result of the trainings certified by the ministry. Not every physician can work here. Unfortunately, we see the negative consequences of GETAT applications of people who are not physicians and healthcare professionals, which we call under the stairs. We recommend that all our people pay attention to the applications made by the doctor in the GETAT unit.”
Practices performed in GETAT unit
Beyhan Oğuz, Family Physician in charge of the GETAT Unit, also explained the applications. Oğuz said, “We apply mesotherapy technique. This technique is one of the most important treatments and departments of traditional and complementary medicine. Mesotherapy is a treatment method in which we apply small doses of drugs to the target tissue or organ with micro injections. In fact, it is a treatment method using less medication than all oral treatment methods. Cupping, on the other hand, is a treatment method in which we take and expel toxins that cannot be excreted through the circulatory system, excretory system, liver, spleen as a result of the accumulation of toxins in the connective tissue by vacuuming technique. It is actually our ancestral treatment method. Cupping is a complementary medicine method applied not only in Turkey but also in the world. In our PRP application, patients come to us with various diseases. The most important of these is effective in hair loss, which we call the disease of our age. We do this application for our patients who are fond of their beauty. Apart from these, we have middle-aged and elderly patients. We have patients with joint disorders, tendon and muscle tears. In other words, we use it in every field from joint muscle diseases to hair loss and improving the quality of the skin.”
