Rosehip fruit, one of the indispensable fruits of the winter months in Sivas, attracts attention with its flavor and health benefits. When this tiny healing store is consumed too much, it can cause poisoning.
In Sivas, winter preparations were started with the arrival of autumn. Rosehip, which grows spontaneously in nature, took its place at the beginning of these preparations. Rosehip, which has red fruits in the form of chickpeas that grow on thorny bushes, is among the indispensable flavors of citizens with its vitamins B1, B2, C and K. The rosehip fruit, which is carefully picked one by one from among the thorns, can be made into marmalade, compote or tea by drying. Rosehip tea, which is indispensable among the herbal teas usually consumed in the winter months, cures many diseases. Stating that although it is a complete healing store, it can do more harm than good when consumed too much, expert dietician Gülsüm Hazman said, “If consumed too much, it creates a toxic effect on the body and as a result, poisoning may occur.”
“A storehouse of healing”
Stating that it grows almost everywhere, Mustafa Çengel said, “Rosehip is a very healing fruit given by God. Marmalade and tea are made. Especially when we add it to linden and boil it, it becomes a full healing store. It contains vitamin C. It does not need a special place, it grows everywhere.”
“We recommend using it in moderation”
Stating that the rosehip fruit, which benefits the immune system by containing many vitamins, can do more harm than good when consumed in excess, expert dietician Gülsüm Hazman said, “Rosehip is a plant with red fruits in the form of shrubs and chickpeas that grow in almost every region of Turkey. Since it is resistant to cold weather, it is seen to grow in large quantities especially in Sivas region. It is especially used in herbal tea, marmalade and nectar consumption. Rosehip contains high levels of vitamin C. It also contains vitamin B1, B2 and K. It contains high antioxidant components and has an immune-boosting effect. For this reason, when we consider the upcoming winter months, we experts definitely recommend rosehip. Of course, we recommend using it in moderation. If consumed too much, it creates a toxic effect on the body and as a result, poisoning may occur.”
