Transparent aligners eliminate braces anxiety

Turkish Orthodontic Society (TOD) hosted Prof. Nikhilesh R. Vaid, President of the World Federation of Orthodontists at Bahçeşehir University. The Indian orthodontic specialist made a presentation with his team at the training seminar for Young TOD members. Prof. Dr. Beyza Hancıoğlu Kırcelli, Head of BAU Department of Orthodontics, also gave important information at the seminar and said, “Thanks to the developments in transparent plaque treatments, aesthetic concerns caused by braces will end.”

A new one was added to the training seminars organized for GençTOD, which operates under the umbrella of the Turkish Orthodontic Association (TOD) and consists of young members who are receiving orthodontic education. Prof. Nikhilesh R. Vaid, President of the World Federation of Orthodontists, and Dr. Samar Adel also attended the day-long seminar organized in cooperation with BAU and TOD at Bahçeşehir University South Campus. TOD President Prof. Dr. Derya Germeç Çakan made the opening speech of the seminar. Prof. Nikhilesh R. Vaid and Dr. Samar Adel made presentations in a significant part of the training seminar that continued throughout the day. Prof. Dr. Beyza Hancıoğlu Kırcelli, Head of BAU Department of Orthodontics, and orthodontics specialist Dr. Gilman Yücel also shared their professional experiences and gave information about current developments. In the seminar, innovations in orthodontic science, transparent aligners and application areas were discussed with the effect of rapidly developing technology, and after the program, Prof. Dr. Beyza Hancıoğlu Kırcelli, Head of the Department of Orthodontics, gave information about the process in orthodontics.

Transparent aligners eliminate aesthetic concerns

Prof. Dr. Beyza Hancıoğlu Kırcelli stated that while the developing technologies in the world offer innovations in the field of health, transparent aligners are among the important innovations in the field of orthodontics. Prof. Dr. Beyza Hancıoğlu Kırcelli said that transparent aligners were previously used to correct mild dental disorders, but today, thanks to the developing production and material technology, they can be used in the treatment of almost all dental and jaw disorders that can be treated with braces. Prof. Dr. Beyza Hancıoğlu Kırcelli said that this will provide great convenience especially for people who avoid wearing braces due to aesthetic concerns. Prof. Dr. Kırcelli stated that transparent aligners provide serious aesthetic advantages to patients compared to traditional wire treatments and said the following:

“There is no metal wire appearance. The plates are completely transparent. It gives the patient the freedom not to wear the aligners on important days and times such as weddings, invitations, meetings and presentations. In addition, since these aligners are removable, the patient can remove the aligners while eating, eat whatever they want to eat comfortably, and easily brush and clean their teeth after eating and reinsert them. At this point, providing the necessary oral hygiene while the braces are in the mouth is of course more laborious due to the retaining areas between the wires, while it is easier to provide oral hygiene in plaque treatment.”

Millimeter precise planning can be made with technology

Prof. Dr. Kırcelli stated that the introduction of useful tools and interfaces together with advanced software technology in transparent aligner treatments provides great advantages. “It offers strategic advantages such as the ability to visualize the treatment planning and the end of the treatment in three dimensions in the computer environment, to predict the amount of tooth movement to be obtained by overlapping the current situation with the planned treatment end in the software with a precision of one tenth of a millimeter, and to control the amount of force on a tooth. In addition, thanks to the aligners, which are planned and mass-produced according to the target finish and used sequentially with weekly changes, the time spent at the patient's bedside and in the mouth has been significantly shortened, and access to patients living outside the city has increased.”

Transparent plaque will increase the effectiveness of treatment

Stating that transparent plate treatments will be carried further in the future of orthodontics, Prof. Dr. Kırcelli also said the following about the recently widespread transparent plate technology:

“The development and widespread use of biocompatible and durable resins printed directly from the printer, and the integration of tools such as digital monitoring and remote control with artificial intelligence have provided great convenience. The innovations will increase the effectiveness of treatment with transparent aligners and therefore, it will mean that orthodontic treatment can provide a beautiful and healthy smile to more individuals of all ages who do not want to wear braces aesthetically and socially but want their teeth to be straightened.”
