Ülker: “Someone who knows first aid will be maximally beneficial to society”

Provincial Health Directorate Emergency and Disaster Health Services Unit UMKE officer, First Aid Unit Trainer Mustafa Ülker said, “Someone who knows first aid will be maximally beneficial to the society” and gave information about the life-saving Heimlich maneuver.

Speaking on September 14 First Aid Day, Ülker stated that first aid is the application of first aid without any medication without using any tools or equipment until the arrival of health professionals in any accident or other life-threatening situation. Pointing out that first aid saves lives, Ülker said:

“Everyone should have the knowledge of first aid, and everyone with self-confidence should be able to apply this knowledge after receiving it. Someone who knows first aid will be maximally beneficial to society. As a result, it is a question mark who will need first aid where and when. Anyone who wants to get information or training on first aid can come to our Provincial Health Directorate First Aid Training Unit and get information. There may be individual or collective applications in the application. We contact individual applications with an individual petition, and if there is a collective application, we contact the person responsible for it. We take their own information and they determine a day and deliver their first aid certificates to them by subjecting them to a total of 16 hours of 2-day training consisting of 8 and 8 hours, followed by an exam.”

Ülker stated that everything done unconsciously can have bad consequences even if the intention is good and said, “Our aim here is to raise citizens and society who can teach first aid correctly and perform substitution practices correctly. As a society, we love to help, but unfortunately, when we say to help, especially if it is human life, if there is a person who encounters a bad situation, and when we do the first aid badly, unfortunately, the result is bad.”

Ülker explained that the Heimlich maneuver is life-saving if the airway is blocked in a way that prevents breathing. Ülker said that in this critical situation, especially in children, 112 should be called immediately and the Heimlich maneuver should be applied immediately if it is known, and that this technique is easy enough for most of us to learn.
