Private Imperial Hospital Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Specialist Dr. Canan İnce Börekci stated that most of the social and emotional development of today's children takes place on the internet.
Börekci noted that uncontrolled and uncontrolled internet use brings children and adolescents closer to dangers that are thought to be far away, and said, “Unfortunately, most of the social and emotional development of today's children takes place on the internet. In particular, the effort of social networks to maintain people's social contacts, to feel belonging to a community/group/opinion, to meet their needs to be understood, cared about, valued, in fact, they take a large part of their time, especially children, far from their immediate environment, to feel 'close' to distant people. These distant-close social interactions established in digital environments distract children from the parental, peer and environmental interactions they need for their social, emotional and spiritual development. Especially during adolescence, when the search for identity, feeling included, seeking acceptance and approval, and predicting danger and risk is weak, the internet can facilitate dangerous views and groups to reach children.”
