Urologist: ''There is no cure for prostate disease with medication, there can only be relief with medication''
Urology Specialist Op. Dr. Veysel Yüzgeç stated that there is no cure for prostate disease, there is only relief treatment with medication, and that there is not yet a drug that will destroy prostate tissue.
Urology Specialist Op. Dr. Veysel Yüzgeç, who works at Elazığ Medilines Hospital, made statements about prostate disease seen in men. Emphasizing that prostate disease should not be taken lightly, Op. Dr. Yüzgeç stated that prostate patients have more problems in winter compared to summer months and that they should have a doctor check once a year after the age of 40. Stating that prostate disease concerns men, Urology Specialist Op. Dr. Veysel Yüzgeç from Elazığ Medilines Hospital said, “Prostate is an auxiliary reproductive organ found even in newborn boys. After the age of 40, it starts to grow over time. When it grows, the patient cannot urinate as healthy as before. He urinates more frequently and urinates with cuts and forks and cannot pass urine forward. He/she urinates several times a night, until he/she empties his/her urine completely. These symptoms are more pronounced in cold weather, especially in winter. While these patients are more comfortable in summer, they have more problems in winter. There is no cure for prostate disease, only medication for relief. Since prostate tissue is flesh tissue, no medicine has yet been found to destroy it. If the prostate tissue becomes too large, it must be operated on surgically, endoscopically or laparoscopically. The World Health Organization recommends that men after a certain age (40) should undergo an annual urological examination and examination. After the necessary tests, depending on the degree of enlargement and symptoms, soothing medication may be prescribed. Not always prostate tissue grows benignly. Sometimes we encounter cancers of the prostate. Examination, urinary ultrasound and blood test (PSA) are important in diagnosis. For patients with suspected prostate cancer, we first apply a treatment and follow-up. After 15 days, when our patient comes back, we ask for another test. If the results are still problematic, this time we switch to prostate-specific dynamic MR examination. The results are graded from 1 to 4. While 1 and 2 are considered normal, we go to biopsy in 3 and 4. We perform cancer staging for our patients diagnosed with prostate cancer, and if the cancer has not gone beyond the prostate, we apply a different surgical method (total orostatectomy).
''Prostate is not a disease to be passed over''
Explaining that prostate disease is not a disease to be passed over, Op. Dr. Yüzgeç said, “If the patient is not operated on time, first the bladder and then the kidneys can be negatively affected and damaged. In those who cannot urinate comfortably, the bladder loses its normal anatomical structure over time and begins to deteriorate. When the pressure that is not reflected downwards is reflected upwards, i.e. towards the kidneys, it can cause kidney damage and even kidney failure. This disease is no joke. If a man is over the age of 40 and urinates frequently, cannot empty his urine completely, urinates thinly and cannot pass it forward, it is strongly recommended that he be examined by a urologist as soon as possible. Prostate disease cannot be eliminated with medication; medication only postpones the problem for a while. The ultimate treatment of prostate disease is surgery. It is also not appropriate to take every patient to surgery. Even when our patients receive medication, their prostates continue to grow. The medication that relieves becomes uncomfortable after a while. Complaints gradually increase because the medication is not effective. At this stage, surgery is required. In prostate cancers, after the disease is confirmed by analysis, MRI and biopsy, then staging is performed and if the disease has not gone beyond the prostate, treatment is performed with endoscopic, laparoscopic or robotic surgery.”
