Shortly before the opening of the new academic year, experts warned about the correct bag and its use. Underlining that the weight of the school bag should not exceed 10 percent of the child's weight, Memorial Kayseri Hospital Orthopedics and Traumatology Specialist Prof. Dr. Fatih Karaaslan; “Wrong bag selection and use; It can negatively affect the spine health of our children. There are some issues that our school-age children, especially in the growing age, should pay attention to during bag selection and bag use. At the beginning of these, we recommend that the weight of the bag should not exceed 10 percent of our child's weight in nursery, kindergarten and primary school age children. Likewise, we can increase this limit up to 15 percent in older age groups. At the same time, instead of carrying a messenger bag-style bag, we recommend that our children carry their bags symmetrically on both shoulders by wearing appropriate straps.”
Prof. Dr. Karaaslan emphasized that attention should also be paid to the height of the student's desk and chair; “Our children in these age groups study at the desk. I recommend that the height of the table and chairs be adjusted ergonomically according to the child's spine in order to manage the spine health of our children in the right way and not to see an abnormal problem in their spine.”
