Specialist Doctor Aytül Turan, one of the Family Physician Specialists of Erzurum Health Directorate, drew attention to the fact that the rejection of infancy and childhood vaccines and the hesitations shown in this regard, regardless of religious, political or geographical reasons, are gradually increasing in the world.
Family Physician Specialist Specialist Doctor Aytül Turan stated that the vaccine is a biological substance developed by eliminating the disease-causing properties of microbes such as viruses, bacteria, etc., which are applied to healthy and at-risk people in various ways in order to protect people from diseases and the negative consequences of diseases.
“The child who completes the vaccination schedule is healthier”
Stating that vaccination practices play a major role in the elimination of many diseases over the years and in preventing the recurrence of epidemics in the past, Specialist Doctor Aytül Turan said that the infancy and childhood vaccination schedule applied in our country is created in line with the recommendations of the Scientific Advisory Board on Immunization and by following scientific developments in the world. A child who completes the vaccination schedule is protected from diphtheria (croup), whooping cough, tetanus, polio, measles, rubella, mumps, chickenpox, varicella and liver inflammation caused by vaccine-preventable diseases, liver failure, cirrhosis and liver cancer, common tuberculosis, meningitis, pneumonia, otitis media and disability and death that may occur as a result of all these diseases.

Pointing out that the refusal of infancy and childhood vaccinations and hesitations among societies around the world, regardless of religious, political or geographical reasons, are increasing, Dr. Turan said in his article in the Public Health Bulletin of Erzurum Health Directorate, “According to the report announced by the World Health Organization, vaccine hesitancy is among the 10 threats affecting health worldwide. In recent years, there has been a 30% increase in measles cases and the impact of vaccine hesitancy on this increase is undeniable. The risk of vaccine-preventable infectious diseases increases due to unvaccinated or under-vaccinated people, migration, wars, etc. In this context, various steps and measures are being taken all over the world. Vaccination is a responsibility of parents for the health of their children and a right of children. Achieving high vaccination rates requires primary health care services and strong health policies. Routine immunization services are the earliest point of contact for access to health services at the beginning of life and offer every child the chance to live a healthy life from the earliest stages of life until old age. In a holistic approach, vaccines are an important building block of individual and community health. Healthy children are the simplest and surest solution for a healthy society, a healthy economy and a world without inequality and poverty.”
