Mersin Metropolitan Municipality and İçel Soroptimist Club organized an awareness program for women about the importance of breast cancer and what to pay attention to.
Women from Yenice center and surrounding neighborhoods participated in the program held at Mersin Metropolitan Municipality Yenice Yaşar Bayboğan service building within the scope of '1-31 October Breast Cancer Awareness and Awareness Month'. At the awareness meeting, where a slide presentation was made, detailed information on 'What is the risk factor in breast cancer?', 'Definition of breast cancer and how to prevent it' was given and questions were answered.
“The incidence of breast cancer is very high in Turkey”
Saime Taşkın, President of the Soroptimist Club of İçel, who participated as a speaker in the information meeting on breast cancer, said: “The incidence of breast cancer in Turkey is very high. It is seen in one out of every 8 women. It is in the form of questions and answers or they tell about their own experiences. We have raised awareness about how normal their own breasts are after the age of 20, where to go for treatment, what treatment methods they should use when they encounter such a mass.”
“I think this information is very useful”
Serin Uğur, one of the participants, who is also a cancer patient and said that she found the meeting very useful, said: “I do not have breast cancer, but I have bladder cancer. I know these processes very well. I think this information is very useful because unfortunately women have a habit of not checking their own breasts. I am a little more experienced in this regard. I think it is very, very useful for us to have such a meeting.”

Mühibe Kiriş, another woman from Yenice, said that she understood the importance of breast cancer once again with the presentation and said, “I liked that they taught these issues to women, it is very nice to be informed. For example, I had a test 5 years ago, and now I am thinking of going again, so I should have it done every year. Our Metropolitan Municipality has done a good thing.”
